Out of the mouth…

We try to instill in the children the importance of telling the truth.

No if’s, ands, or buts. Right? You be the judge.

Last week, I was in the bathroom ensuite in my room, and in comes Bubba (the 7 yo). He sees me sitting on the throne. He doesn’t say a word, just gives me a little smile, and goes zooming out of the bathroom on his toy truck.

I hear this exchange happen in the kitchen, which is just outside my room.

Bub: DADDY! We need a bigger toilet!

MS Dad: Huh? What?

(I’m thinking he means more washrooms, because perhaps the other washrooms are also occupied, and he needs to go)

Bub: We need a bigger toilet because Mummy can’t fit on it any more!

MS Dad (& the girls): BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Me (still in the bathroom): WHATTT?!!! EXCUSE ME???!

MS Dad pokes his head into the bathroom, laughing his head off.

He goes back to the kitchen and tries to tell his firstborn son in his most serious voice: Now, Bubs, when you have a wife, it’s best if you don’t say things like that. It’s not very nice.

It’s a good thing I don’t take offence easily to these kinds of comments. However, we’ve had to stress to the children that while these types of remarks don’t bother us, others might not take to them as kindly, and to refrain from such observations (however truthful they might be.) 🙂
