You Got To Be Kidding!

I have been on this earth for more than 3 decades and have managed to be relatively free from pesky infections that sometimes plague women.

So I was much distressed yesterday when I discovered blood in my urine.  Gasp!!
At first I didn’t think too much about it.  But as the day progressed, and each trip to the bathroom yielded similar results, accompanied by pain, I started to panic.

Onto the computer I went, trying to diagnose myself. Possible diagnoses ranged from urinary tract infection (UTI) all the way to the dreaded C. At this point, I decided to take a break from the computer and simply wait for hubby to get home that evening so that I could scoot over to the walk-in clinic.

As it turned out, I couldn’t get in to see the doctor as they had a long waiting line and it was half an hour to closing time. So back home I went, onto the computer to do more research. This time I googled “natural cure for urinary tract infection” and came across a natural alternative to antibiotics for UTI’s.

This alternative suggested that D-mannose, a simple sugar and close cousin of glucose, could cure 90% of all UTI’s within a day or two.  Figuring it wouldn’t hurt, I downed 4 peaches (said to contain large quantities of D-mannose), and for good measure, consumed a clove of raw garlic as well as a few drops of oil of oregano, all undergirded with prayer 🙂  This was done just before retiring to bed last night.

During the night, I was excited (as excited as one can be in the middle of the night!) to find that subsequent trips to the bathroom were not to be dreaded as much.  By this morning, the bleeding has all but stopped, with just a little pain lingering.

Now I have an interesting dilemma – to go or not to go to the doctor to get a diagnosis.  And now with very little symptoms, would they even bother?

In the meantime, I’m off to the store to pick up more peaches (good thing they’re in season right now!), and perhaps the health store to see if they carry D-mannose.

Disclaimer – this is not to be a substitute for a visit with a qualified, licensed health care professional. 🙂

  1. I had UTI once and cranberry juice helped. Although I thought my urine cleared after downing a few bottles through the night. I still went to see the doctor. They found traces of blood in my urine and I was prescribed a course of antibiotics.

  2. Hey hey, glad to hear you’re better. Might be worth going for a check-up anyway.

  3. Thanks. I did go to the walk-in clinic and was rewarded with a doctor who must’ve just come out of med school. Anyhow, they’ve got a specimen and I’ve got a ‘script for antibiotics. But I’m holding off on them and continuing on D-mannose and peaches.

I’ll go in for a follow-up next week to see if I’m all clear.

  4. […] UTI is not […]
