Science Experiment – Making Bread

The children were watching a science experiment on the properties of yeast and in the experiment they made bread.

So of course, they wanted to make their own bread.  They’d actually taken the time to write down the recipe for the bread (rewinding & replaying the DVD until they got the instructions right).

Not wanting to be a party pooper, I let ’em at it – with the condition that they’d have to eat whatever they created. (I was quite skeptical after glancing at the recipe!)

The yeast

Yeast after 10 minutes

 Measuring out the ingredients

Looks a little strange coming together

Dough rolled into different shapes (mummy still skeptical because the dough was quite tough…of course I’m not saying any of this to the children!)

Does that look appetizing to you??

But surprise surprise….

a little toasty on the top…

but very edible…crispy on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside. Definitely tasted better than it looked.

Let’s see….
Learning about yeast – Science – check
Measuring – Math – check
Baking – Home Economics – check check 🙂
