What started off as a “we’ll-replace-a-few-boards-at-a-time” deck project became a “buy-when-on-sale-deck-boards-and-do-the-whole-deck” project. And this deck is extensive.

MS Dad began this project in May…spending any good-weather weekday evenings and weekends yanking out thousands of nails, measuring, cutting, laying boards, drilling in thousands of screws.

And I can assure you that MS Dad is very glad for any help he can get.  Bubba (the older boy) has pitched in to help with the heavy-duty pry bar from day one – as you can see, it’s almost as long as he is, and it’s HEAVY.  He’s become quite adept at it.  

Moose wanted to get into the action but found the pry bar quite unwieldy.  So a few weeks ago, we were at Canadian Tire and found one that was much more suited for his size AND it was on sale! woot woot!

This evening, they’re back at it again – and I called out to them from my kitchen window and asked the boys, “Are you being men out there?” To which, Moose looked up, solemnly nodded his head, and said yes.  hahaha.

A cold refreshing dip in the pool was their reward.

 

p.s. Summer List update – pick fresh fruit – 2 checks in a week! Once was cherry picking off my aunt’s backyard tree. And this afternoon, we went strawberry picking at a nearby farm.  I’m not sure how I’ve managed to live here for more than 20 years and not gone strawberry picking. Well, maybe once – the first year we were here, probably.

We’re now enjoying Ontario strawberries with ice-cream on homemade crepes and our maple syrup for dessert. Yummo.
